A Good Night's Sleep, A Precious Gift

bed.jpgMany people consider a good night's rest a luxury. In this stressful world where the average person works full-time and downs three cups of caffeinated coffee in one day, a good night's sleep seems to be a priceless commodity that cannot be acquired. The Sleep Foundation was founded for this very reason. People have somehow bought into the misconception that it is just too difficult to enjoy a good sound night's sleep. This is why pharmaceutical companies advertise a new sleeping pill everyday for sleep disorders. It makes sense then that when you ask the average hard-working stressed out person how many hours they sleep a night, their answer is usually five – seven hours a night, if they're lucky. They compensate for their lack of sleep by drinking two cups of coffee, eating a sugary breakfast, and taking some form of medication to give their body a synthetic jolt of energy.

Adequate rest is a precious gift. When a person gets a solid good night's sleep, they function and think better throughout the day and their job efficiency is sharp and meticulous. The secret to a good night's sleep is not a secret. It merely involves some simple lifestyle adjustments. Moderate yoga, tai chi, and practicing some form of deep meditation are good methods for balancing the body, mind, and spirit. Instead of listening to agitating music or blaring the television after a hard workday, enjoy a relaxing bath with pure essential oils and soothing music. Read your favorite book in bed and relax.
