Another important way to celebrate Christmas in an earth-friendly sustainable manner is to follow the "3 R's Principle" – Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. One of the largest contributors to environmental degradation is the obscene amount packaging that goes into the manufacturing and processing of a product. The packaging of a product consists of six or seven things: a plastic container, instructions, user manual, warranty, power cord or supply, and a battery. These items are usually small so the packaging should reflect the size. The reality is that this is rarely the case. The time and energy required to cut open the packaging of a new product is very frustrating. The end result is a bag full of petroleum-processed plastic that emits a polluting petroleum stink and cannot be recycled or reused. The plastic will wind up rotting in a landfill among tons of other toxic garbage and waste and will probably never biodegrade gently into the earth.
The natural, green, earth-friendly solution is simple. Reduce your consumption and the amount of packaging used in the products you buy. Keep the packaging and shipping material as clean as possible and store it in a good clean place so you can reduce consumption and reuse the material as often as you can. The best thing you can do is order and purchase products that are packaged with minimal packaging material that you can either reuse many times or that you can recycle. It's also good to purchase products from an earth-friendly store that sells earth-friendly products that are packaged in earth-friendly sustainable materials. Live green, organic, and earth-friendly. It's easier than you think.
