Among the traditions celebrated during Hanukah are lighting the Menorah each night for 12 nights and exchanging gifts. On each of the 12 nights of Hanukah, loved ones gather around the Menorah to light a candle and recite a prayer in Hebrew to commemorate the Holiday. They then sit in a circle and quietly exchange gifts. You can enjoy these Holiday festivities by celebrating in an organic earth-friendly manner. All candles made today are made from paraffin wax, petroleum derived, which is the same toxic smelly substance that you use to fill your gas tank. The other problem with today's candles is that they're scented with fragrance, which contains over 5,000 petro-chemical irritants, known as phthalates. Exposure to these irritants can irritate the lungs, the eyes, and the internal organs and can cause potentially harmful adverse health reactions, especially in those sensitive people with respiratory illnesses.
Your safest healthiest option is to buy and use those candles that are made by organic green companies and are known to be made with Jojoba oil, soy oil, or sesame oil or other natural, non-toxic, earth-friendly plant oil. If you buy these plant wax candles, please be sure that the only scent or fragrance they contain is a 100% organic, pure, natural plant essence, such as patchouli, sandalwood, ylang ylang, or lemongrass. This same rule applies to gift giving. When you give a gift to someone you love and care about, let the gift speak from your heart and show them that you care about their feelings and needs. Give them a gift that makes them feel good. Non-toxic, earth-friendly, organic gifts that contain only 100% pure plant essences are the best gifts that say, "I love you and I care deeply about the environment".
