Celebrate Hanukah With Vegan Potato Latkes

latke.jpgHanukah, also known as the Festival of Lights, is an eight-day Holiday that’s celebrated by people of the Jewish Faith during this time of year. The first night of Hanukah was December 4. The first candle was lit on December 4. Hanukah will last until December 12, which will be the last candle lit. Among the various traditions celebrated, the three popular favorites are lighting the Menorah on each of the 12 nights, making and eating potato pancakes, also known as latkes, and exchanging one gift per night.

Many Jewish people throughout the USA and throughout the world celebrate Hanukah. It is a Holiday that’s as special and sacred as Christmas and creates a special loving bond between ones. In order to celebrate the Holiday in a special way, make sure to eat foods and use products that are healthy and light and will keep you happy. Traditionally, the preparation of potato latkes includes frying grated potatoes using eggs and then topping the latkes with sour cream and other heavy tasty treats. A healthier option is to use a vegan product called Ener-G Brand Egg Replacer that contains potato starch, tapioca flour, and vegan leaveners and make a vegan sour cream mixture of 2-3 tablespoons of Vegenaise and 1-3 teaspoons of fresh lemon juice. Be sure to mix the Vegenaise and lemon juice well for a strong pungent sour cream taste. All tasty traditional Hanukah and Jewish foods can be prepared with healthy vegan ingredients. Organic vegan products can be found at your local organic health food store. Celebrating the Holiday in this manner will keep everyone healthy and happy. Have a Happy Hanukah.
