Commercials are good at one thing: tempting you with their supposed wonderful products while creating tremendous confusion about the truth of their efficacy and safety. Advertising is big business and it's up to you to be sharp and wise to discern the truth from the sensationalism. A new toothpaste product is being marketed as "natural" containing "mint, green tea, and lemon". The company claims that this toothpaste is a new healthy alternative containing natural essential oils. Natural essential oils and herbs are great and all products should contain these natural ingredients. The problem is that these natural ingredients are not the only ingredients in this toothpaste.
I saw the new toothpaste commercial on television. While I was doing my regular grocery shopping last night, I decided to satisfy my curiosity about this supposed "natural" toothpaste and read the label. The moment I read the label, my suspicions were confirmed and I could see that this product is far from natural. Pyrophosphate, FD&C colors ad infinitum, and a slew of other toxic chemicals are ingredients in this toothpaste that do not belong in this toothpaste. You wouldn't eat these ingredients in your food and it's not healthy to brush your teeth with it. You may not eat or swallow any of the toothpaste voluntarily, but small amounts will enter your saliva and bloodstream. Essentially, you are consuming this toothpaste. Don't let the billion-dollar advertising industry manipulate your purchasing decisions. Don't assume that the product is safe. Read the label. Empower yourself by making healthy wise decisions. Vote with your wallet at your local organic health food store.
